You're NOT the Best Person for the Job...Unless You Do This!

Have you ever wondered why you behave differently in different social settings? Your personality is a dynamic construct that adapts to various social needs, and the truth is, you can change it consciously to achieve more in your professional life.

Sales, as a profession, frequently pushes us out of our comfort zones. Picture presenting to CXOs, cold calling prospective clients, or networking for a promotion - all of these scenarios are enough to make even the most hardened professionals feel a twinge of discomfort.

These are the exact moments when dread and self-doubt can worm their way into our confidence. It's a natural reaction as we care about the outcomes and we don't want to look foolish. Ever been gripped by the cold call dread? That heady cocktail of frantic thoughts and distraction-seeking moments before you dial can be all too familiar.

But here's the real kicker: to truly excel in these high-stakes situations, perhaps we need to care...a little less. It sounds counterintuitive, I know, but hear me out: detaching from the outcome can be a real game-changer.

Tip #1: Internalize "You Don't Need This"

Before your sales calls and meetings, try to remove some of the pressure. Remind yourself that you won't perish if you don't book the appointment, close the deal, or get the promotion. Sure, it would be fantastic, but you don't truly need it.

Tip #2: Detach Yourself from the Outcome

Your worth isn't determined by one successful deal or a missed opportunity. You're not the best salesperson in the world if you close the deal, and you're not the worst if you don't. Keep this perspective in mind, and you might find yourself performing better with less stress.

Tip #3: Cultivate an Alter Ego

This isn't as far-fetched as it sounds. Elite athletes and singers have been doing it forever. They detach their 'personal' self from the task at hand and let their 'other self' perform. In Latin, 'Alter Ego' means 'my other self' or 'my alternative self.' So why not create an alter ego who excels in those situations where your 'personal' self might falter?

By following these tips, you can revolutionize your approach to sales, or any high-pressure professional situation for that matter. Ready to exceed your expectations and truly become the best person for the job?

What are your thoughts? Have you tried any of these tips? What works best for you? Let's continue the conversation in the comments below.

Remember, in the world of sales, growth, and personal development, you are your best ally. And sometimes, your alter ego can be your best weapon.
